Served Up is a research and development focussed service provider specialising in telecommunications, with skills and infrastructure in telecoms, software development and service creation.
Voxhub
In 2004 we were one of the first UK companies to develop and launch a business VoIP service, called Voxhub. It's hard to believe how quickly things have changed, but back then fixed telephony with physical landlines and hardware PBXs were what every business was relying upon.
Our vision at the time was to remove the restrictions that prevented businesses from working more flexibly. We did this by cutting the cord with the traditional PSTN, applying for our own telephone numbers and creating one of the first UK VoIP services.
Our team created Voxhub, a hosted software based service that was a replacement for the traditional physical PBX. Controlled using a web browser, it enabled teams at multiple locations to work together answering calls, transferring between sites and removed the restriction of local area codes to allow companies to work from anywhere they wished to operate.
Industry involvement
Served Up is an active contributor to the telecom industry via our participation in the Comms Council UK (was ITSPA). Our involvement with UK telecoms regulation was born from a need to ensure that the market is not stifled and that the competitive landscape continues to allow for innovation and opportunities for new players. We have contributed to new telecoms open standards, industry best practices and given our opinions to Ofcom consultations and UK Government regulatory changes.
i164
More recently we have been working on our next generation telecoms service, i164.
Our Voxhub service routes and connects calls for two parties to communicate with each other using largely static rules based on teams, time of day and ring rules. There's nothing wrong with this, the vast majority of VoIP systems work this way!
The mechanism of connecting calls is important, but once established the call is a conversation and this is an area that until recently has been largely untouched by technology.
Which is why we started i164. A name created by taking E.164, the name given to the international standard format for phone numbers, combined with a subtle i, that hints at Internet, Information and Intelligence.
What exactly is i164?
i164 is a new breed of conversational network with tight integration of AI and telephony into a single intelligent operating infrastructure. We built i164 from the ground up to provide programmable routing of telephone calls and to allow us to run AI services at the heart of a real-time telephone network.
i164 enables the latest AI conversational agents to work side by side with human team members. Seamlessly providing an environment where voice agents can take calls and when required transfer to humans, thereby making them a proper member of the team.
At the core we have a built in conversational engine, with automated speech to text, summarisation and AI analysis. This provides end to end capture and storage of all conversations, that can be used by businesses to better understand what they say to their customers and what their customers are asking of them.
